One of the core principles of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework is that Barriers are in the design, not the learner. To meet the unique needs of our variable learners, the UDL framework empowers educators to identify barriers in the methods, materials, assessment and learning environment and to design options to minimize those barriers. CASEL’s 3 Signature Practices to integrate Social Emotional Learning across all learning environments are: Welcoming/Inclusion Activities, Engaging Strategies and Optimistic Closure. 

In this webinar session, we will share simple strategies to honor what is already being done, explore ways to increase integration of these practices, and design resources you can use the next day.

November's Webinar: Translanguaging: An Approach to Universally Support Multilingual Learners

In this universally designed webinar session, we will explore some of the ways we can adopt a translanguaging stance through the lens of the framework of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). We will explore some of the variabilities that exist within the typologies of our multilingual learners, define what a translanguaging classroom is, and how to leverage translanguaging uses within the UDL framework.
