Through the Lens of UDL Monthly Webinars

In partnership with educators across the state of California, this academic year we will explore designing learning experiences, through the lens of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), in a variety of contexts: Physical Learning Environments, Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL) and a multiple content areas from Pre-K to high school. Co-Teaching through the Lens of UDL

Monday,  March 25, 2024 | 3:30 – 4:30 pm PT

Embark on a transformative journey of co-teaching through the lens of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in our upcoming webinar. Join us for a session aimed at empowering educators to leverage the principles of UDL to create inclusive and engaging learning experiences for all students, including those with diverse learning needs.

Co-teaching offers a powerful framework for collaboration, but integrating UDL principles can amplify its impact, ensuring that every learner can access, engage with, and succeed in the curriculum. In this dynamic webinar, participants will explore practical strategies, insights, and resources to infuse UDL into their co-teaching practices effectively.

Foundational Skills through the Lens of UDL

Monday,  February 26, 2024 | 3:30 – 4:30 pm PT

In this universally designed session,  we will explore the active view of reading. We will explore tools and strategies that offer diverse pathways for students to engage with, represent, and apply their learning. We will address the variability among students, ensuring that our approach is inclusive and adaptable to each learner's unique needs.

Join us as we define foundational reading instruction, fostering an environment where all students can thrive in mastering the crucial skills of reading. This session will provide educators with the beginning knowledge and techniques needed to design universally accessible opportunities for every learner in the journey to literacy.

Math through the Lens of UDL

Monday, January 29, 2024 | 3:30 – 4:30 pm PT

In this universally designed webinar session, we will consider why math is “special” in terms of historical instruction practices and mindsets about the content area. We will revisit the general characteristics of a quality ‘UDL-ified goal’ and practice separating the math goals from the means.  We will examine lessons where the means is the goal and think about how we can still identify and focus on the underlying conceptual understanding that is required to enact a specific skill.

Join us as we explore how we can redesign our math lessons to help our students grapple with connected mathematical representations and express their mathematical understanding in a variety of ways.

Translanguaging: An Approach to Universally Support Multilingual Learners

Monday, November 27, 2023 | 3:30 – 4:30 pm PT

In this universally designed webinar session, we will explore some of the ways we can adopt a translanguaging stance through the lens of the framework of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). We will explore some of the variabilities that exist within the typologies of our multilingual learners, define what a translanguaging classroom is, and how to leverage translanguaging uses within the UDL framework.

Session 2: Through the Lens of UDL, Utilizing CASEL’s SEL Three Signature Practices

Tuesday, October 17, 2023 | 3:30 – 4:30 pm PT

CASEL’s 3 Signature Practices to integrate Social Emotional Learning across all learning environments are: Welcoming/Inclusion Activities, Engaging Strategies and Optimistic Closure.

In this webinar session, we will share simple strategies to honor what is already being done, explore ways to increase integration of these practices, and design resources you can use the next day.

Designing Physical Learning Environments through the Lens of UDL

Monday, September 25, 2023 | 3:30 – 4:30 pm PT

One of the core principles of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework is that Barriers are in the design, not the learner. To meet the unique needs of our variable learners, the UDL framework empowers educators to identify barriers in the methods, materials, assessment and learning environment and to design options to minimize those barriers. Join us for this free, one-hour webinar on "Designing Physical Learning Environments through the Lens of UDL”.
